Will The Winter King have a season 2?

The Winter King?is heading into the tail end of its first season on MGM+? Will the Bernard Cornwell adaptation return for another season?

Right now, we’ve heard nothing. MGM+ has not announced that it’s bringing back?The Winter King?for season 2. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t; perhaps they’re waiting until the whole season has aired before they decide whether they want to order more episodes. Perhaps they’ve already decided to renew the show but don’t want to tell us until later.

OR maybe the show won’t be renewed. That’s possible too. In fact, if you’re enjoying the show, I’d be a little worried, since it looks reasonably expensive to make and you rarely hear people talking about it. Plus the critics — including we here at WinterIsComing — have not enjoyed the show very much. I think?The Winter King?is improving as it reaches the end of the season, but is it too little, too late?

If MGM+?does?decide to give?The Winter King?another shot, we at least that there’s additional source material to adapt.?The Winter King?is the first book in Bernard Cornwell’s?Warlord Chronicles. It looks like the first season will adapt all or most of that book. After that, there are two more books in the series:?Enemy of God?and?Excalibur.

So the source material is there. The question is whether MGM+ will ever get to it. For the answer to that question, all we can do is wait.
