Our Flag Means Death, Max’s charming pirate dramedy,?just aired the eighth episode of its second season, “Mermen.” Is there a ninth episode in the offing?
The short answer is no. “Mermen” is the season 2 finale of?Our Flag Means Death. There will be no more episodes of season 2.
We might, however, eventually get a third season, but right now we don’t know whether Max will order one. “Mermen” might be merely the season 2 finale or it might be the?series?finale. It all depends on what the executives at Max decide.

Speaking to?Inverse,?Our Flag Means Death?creator David Jenkins says he has “plans” for season 3, but whether he’ll get to execute them is out of his hands.??I would love it if Max had plans for season three, because I?d love to make another season of a show with them,” he said. “I think they?re a great place to make a TV show. But season three would be the last season.?
So if Max?does?renew?Our Flag Means Death?for season 3, that would also be the last season. But again, right now, we’re not sure what’s going to happen.
If you want to see a third season of?Our Flag Means Death, the best thing you can do is watch the show and recommend that other people watch the show. Ultimately, executives look at viewership numbers when deciding whether or not to renew a TV series.
Also — and this is just grumping about things I can’t change — I don’t know why Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t choose to both air?Our Flag Means Death?on HBO itself in addition to streaming it on Max. I don’t think they’ll lose many or any Max subscribers but giving it a nice time slot on the better-known network. I think all that would have done is expose the show to more people who then would been tempted to subscribe to Max so they could watch their new favorite pirate show whenever they pleased. But there’s nothing to do about it now. Here’s hoping?Our Flag Means Death?eventually returns for season 3.
