Ranking The 20 Deaths of Game of Thrones Season 5
3. White Walker X
There was lots of death on this season of Game of Thrones, with major and minor characters biting it alike. Somehow, the death of this unnamed character stood out amid the bloodbath. Called “White Walker X” by the production, he was the battlefield general who led the wight army while the Night’s King looked down from his horse and watched the battle play out. Why does a nameless character rank so high on our death countdown? Because his death was arguably the most important death in the grand scheme of things on Game of Thrones, and for the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.
In one of our history posts, we looked at the legend of the Night’s King and the first Long Night, which was the last time the White Walkers came down and attempted to conquer the world of Men. Since that time, dragons were born and tamed in Old Valryia, and a new form of weaponry was invented: Valyrian steel. Men did not have weapons of Valryian Steel the last time the White Walkers invaded, and as we learned in “Hardhome,” they’re more valuable than dragonglass during a battle.
The moment when Jon Snow took out White Walker X took the Night’s King aback. Let’s hope that the world of men has a few other surprises in store for him.
