Ben Crompton fits. But why is he so sad?
George hit us with some clues again, and our House Gatewatch super-sleuths were again hard at work. We work fast!
We’re thinking, thanks to Lex’s intrepid internet adventuring, they point to English actor Ben Crompton playing the role of Eddison “Dolorous Edd” Tollett, the Night’s Watch’s own version of Eeyore, always down but never out.
Lex is so confident, Lexicopia already has him in the role. Looks pretty tight.
Let’s go over this, shall we? George said:
Across the Atlantic Sea
From England, England hails this fellow, an ideal choice. He’s been a madman, a nut, a spud, a martian, a king, and a slaver, he’s gone up with a balloon and down with a ship. But why he is so sad when he’s stroked so many women?
As Lex and others discovered, Crompton had roles in Ideal, Man Stroke Woman, The Balloon, The Slavery Business, and The Sinking of the Laconia. He’s played characters named Nutt and Mad Al, and played Claude Truffaut in a TV movie called The Outsiders. Finally, he’s also from Manchester!
We’re pretty confident. Good sleuthing! What do you all think of this bit of casting?
CONFIRMATION UPDATE: GRRM confirms Ben Crompton is to play Dolorous Edd. Congrats, Lex! In related news, HBO confirms they have cast Karl Davies as the new character Alton Lannister. Read our comments on the rumour from the end of last month and the speculation on the character he is to play.
