Filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia, becoming a reality

Rumours on filming Season 2 in Croatia have been around for a very long time. Heck, I might have been the first to inadvertently call it, as an April’s Fool joke on Twitter (mostly to tease our tireless The Rabbit). Then all of a sudden the production team indeed started scouting the sites, and later George started mentioning Croatia and its cities in a non-committal manner. Later still, the local legislature was adapted to favour foreign productions filming in the country.

Now there are rumours stating that the contract for filming in Croatia (and Dubrovnik specifically) is a done deal, or near enough as makes no matter. These rumours seem to stem from George R. R. Martin’s editor in Croatia.

Plus we can bring you some more substantial rumours from an inside source, with quite a bit of detail. All of it, obviously, unofficial and unconfirmed, but at least to me the info sounds legitimate. Here is what we have:

• Filming will take place in Dubrovnik (other locations have not been mentioned, nor excluded), but no specific locations are known to us as of yet.
• Preparations are set to begin on August 28th.
• Filming is to start on September 19th and will last about four weeks.
• A Croatian production company is to coordinate the filming, with the majority of the crew from Dubrovnik.

Hear Me Roar: The question remains of course what they might be filming there? Scenes at Storm’s End, Dragonstone, Qarth or King’s Landing are all possibilities. What do you think, dear readers?
