Game of Thrones: The Video Game

You may have heard of the two A Song of Ice and Fire video games, a role-playing game and a real-time strategy game, being developed by Cyanide Studio. Both of the games were to be based on the books, but now Cyanide has revealed that they have secured the license to HBO’s Game of Thrones for their RPG, making it an official Game of Thrones video game! The news was revealed in this French interview with Cyanide developers. Head past the break for more details…

They explain that they will be using all of the actor’s likenesses and certain art design elements, such as the Iron Throne. They also have the rights to use the music, audio, and logo from the show. Unfortunately the game was too far into development for it to be a total recreation of the HBO show. The storyline is still strictly from the book and Most of the locations are not in line with the show’s version. Not much is known about the gameplay yet, although from the screens it appears to be a standard action RPG. The plot of the game is a new story that has been approved by George R. R. Martin. It follows two new characters, one a man who joins the Night’s Watch, another a young knight who is a member of a small house. Hit up the interview for some concept art and more screenshots, including one with James Cosmo and some Night’s Watch men killing Mallister soldiers, for some reason.

Cyanide’s RPG, still untitled, is set to release in 2012. Their RTS, A Game of Thrones: Genesis (which is too far along in development to benefit from the HBO license), will release in Q3 2011.

Winter Is Coming: This is pretty cool news. The graphics look a little rough, hopefully they will clean that up for release. And who knows how the game will play. Plus, while the new storyline sounds cool, I was kinda looking forward to pwning some noobs as Jerome Flynn with Peter Dinklage by my side, cracking wise. Sorta like this…
