HBO president mentions pilot re-shoot

HBO president Michael Lombardo mentioned Game of Thrones in an article from The Live Feed regarding HBO’s recent renewal of Treme for a second season. Below is the excerpt concerning Thrones:

The David Simon and Eric Overmeyer series will resume production in the fall with season two debuting next spring — about the time another upcoming project, “Game of Thrones,” will be ready to hit the air.

“They should be ready about the same time,” Lombardo said.

Lombardo confirmed that the “Thrones” pilots had some re-shoots, but assured the show’s quality is high.

“It looks beautiful, the compelling scripts are just fantastic, we’re doing reshoots but nothing major,” he said. “The show is there.”

Winter Is Coming: Nothing too earth shattering here, but it is nice to know HBO is not concerned about the re-shoots. Also good to hear that it hasn’t set back their target air date, which still looks to be spring 2011. Curiously Lombardo describes the reshoots as “nothing major” but based on what we already know about the recasting (Catelyn for sure, Dany highly likely) it seems that the reshoots that would be needed would be major. For now I’m going to guess that this is just executive speak for HBO not being concerned with the reshooting and to ensure fans that the production is still on track.
