Character Overview: Eddard Stark, informally called “Ned”, is Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount of the North, and Warden of the North. He and Catelyn Tully Stark have five children, and he claims a bastard son, Jon Snow. Eddard is known for his sense of honor and justice; he dislikes deceit, intrigue, and secrecy. Though his family finds him kind, some consider his reserved personality a sign of coldness and disdain. His eyes (dark and grey in the books) are said to reflect his moods; among his enemies, they are said to reflect his frozen heart. –A Wiki of Ice and Fire

Recent Events: The show begins with King Robert Baratheon calling upon Ned to take up the position of Hand of the King in the capital city of King’s Landing. Ned is reluctant to do so, but takes the position when Catelyn’s sister Lysa Arryn writes to inform Cat that her husband, former Hand of the King Jon Arryn, was murdered by the Lannisters. Ned becomes Hand of the King in order to keep everybody (including his friend the King, a known glutton and cuckolder) in check. Upon finding out that Joffrey is in fact the son of Jaime and Cersei Lannister, he attempts to dethrone the Lannisters after Robert’s death passes the throne to Joffrey, but he is ultimately outplayed by Cersei, who imprisons him for treason. Unfortunately for Ned, Joffrey surprises even his own mother by ordering Ned to be beheaded on the Great Sept of Baelor, despite promising Sansa that her father’s life would be spared.

Actor Bio: Sean Bean, England’s most versatile actor, holds a stellar career spanning every medium for approximately 20 years, in theater, radio, television and movies. This soulful, green-eyed blonde’s roles are so varied that his magnetic persona convincing plays angst-ridden villians, as in Clarissa, passionate lovers like Mellors in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, rough-and-ready soldiers such as Richard Sharpe, heartwrenching warriors as the emotionally torn Boromir in The Lord of the Rings, and noble Greeks, like Odysseus in Troy, where his very presence in the film adds grace and validity to the rest of the movie. Post-Thrones, he continues to enjoy a versatile selection of roles, including the King in the fairy-tale film Mirror Mirror and the role of Stinger in the upcoming Wachowski siblings film Jupiter Ascending. –IMDb
