Thrones nominated for two Writers Guild Awards
Awards season is definitely here, and Game of Thrones is mixing it up with the best of them. The show was nominated for two Writers Guild Awards on Thursday: Best Drama Series and Best Episodic Drama for “The Lion and the Rose” (written by George R.R. “one of Hollywood’s most powerful authors” Martin). This marks the third year that the WGA has honored Thrones with nominations. In 2011, the show was nominated in the New Series category (where it lost to Showtime’s Homeland, like everything else that year) as well as Best Drama Series, where it lost to Breaking Bad. In 2013, the show made a repeat performance in the Best Drama Series category, where it again lost to Breaking Bad. This also marks the third time in recent weeks that Thrones has been nominated for awards, with both the Producer’s Guild of America and the American Society of Cinematographers honoring the show’s cinematography crew and production team.
The WGA winners will be announced on Saturday, February 14th, a few months shy of Thrones‘ fifth season premiere.
