Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbje’s role in Season 5 is becoming clear
As we start the new year, more and more news on season 5 of Game of Thrones will begin to start flowing like the current of the Blackwater Rush. The good folks over at Watchers on the Wall have cited a source giving new and exciting details on Adewale Akinnuoya-Agbaje’s role, in season 5.
Beware, spoilers abound after the jump
In October of this year, it was announced that Mr. Akkinuoya-Agbaje had joined the cast of season 5, in an unspecified role. Better known for his roles as Mr. Eko from Lost, and Simon Edibisi from HBO’s Oz, I personally was extremely excited to see him attached. My only wish was that he would be portraying Areo Hotah, instead of a newly created character for the show, named Malko.
Watchers are reporting that Mr. Akkinuoya-Agbaje will be playing a slaver working on the continent of Essos (where Daenerys’ current story-arc is being played out). His character, Malko, runs a slave auction and is attempting to auction Ser Jorah Mormont (recently banished from Dany’s court), and Tyrion Lannister (recently escaped from King’s Landing).
If you are a fan of the books you may recognize this scene. Jorah, who has captured Tyrion, decides the best way to get back into his queen’s good graces, is to bring her the son of the man who betrayed her father. The two are eventually captured and sold into slavery.
I can’t possibly imagine that Season 5 will have enough time, in 10 episodes, to go through all of that story, and it’s a safe bet that they won’t. So, I am beyond curious as to how the showrunners will bring the two together, get them sold into slavery, then get introduced to Daenerys, where Jorah will fight in Daznak’s gladiator pits. (which is another departure from the books)
We want to hear from you , what do you think of Adewale Akinnuoya-Agbaje’s role in Game of Thrones Season 5? Fans of the books, how do you feel about the departure from the books, in regards to this story-arc? Let’s talk about it, in the comments below.
