Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer gets an R rating
History will be made this Thursday, as Game of Thrones will be the first ever television program to be shown in IMAX theaters. The final two episodes of Season 4, “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children”, will be shown in all their epic glory across IMAX screens. As part of that experience, attendees will get to view an exclusive first look at the Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer.
More about the Season 5 trailer, after the jump.
Because the final two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 4 will be shown in theaters, the MPAA has to rate them, and they were given an R rating. Apparently, the same rule applies to the Season 5 trailer, as well. Air Herald is reporting that the Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer has been officially given an R rating by the MPAA.
“The Game Of Thrones season 5 trailer has been officially rated R by the MPAA. That’s because it will be shown with the final two episodes of Game Of Thrones Season 4, which are airing in IMAX theaters later this month. It’s the first time that a TV series has been shown in IMAX, but because it will be aired in a movie theater, it has to be rated by the MPAA.”
“The MPAA gave the Game Of Thrones Season 5 trailer an R-rating for sequences of brutal violence and language including sexual references.”
The idea that the Game of Thrones IMAX Experience was given an R rating should come as no surprise but giving the trailer itself an R rating is an entirely different matter. Because of this, I wonder if this specific trailer will be more edgier than the previous four seasons, and if it will be different from the one that will be released online.
The Game of Thrones IMAX Experience will begin on Thursday, January 29th and will run to Thursday, February 5th.
