John Bradley says fans will be “double crossed in new and exciting ways” for Season 5

John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), spoke to The Independent UK at the opening of the Game of Thrones: The Exhibition, and had some very interesting things to say about the twists and turns coming in Season 5. Speaking at London’s O2 arena, for the launch of the exhibition, Bradley said the Game of Thrones team had worked hard to keep fans captivated.

“Viewers should be prepared to be surprised and double-crossed”

Bradley even sat the Iron Throne and took pictures with and for fans at the exhibit. He also had this to say:

“The quandary going into season five, if anything, is that we know what people like, we know what people expect, so we know that we are going to have to keep them interested in what they like but find ways of surprising them still”

I like that the writers/producers are trying to keep we the fans, on our toes, and Bradley expounded a bit on that:

“I think people, after watching 40 hours of something, they start to know the formula a bit – or they start to think they know the formula a bit – so we have got to find new and exciting ways of both keeping it familiar and double-crossing them. And I think we’ve managed to do that”

He’s not wrong. Figuring out the direction of a show, especially one heading into its 5th season, is not that much of a challenge. John also talked about Sam’s journey in Season 4, and what we can expect of him in Season 5.

“As far as Sam is concerned, Sam finished season four on a relative high. He achieved so much in season four, not only coming to the forefront and gaining all this responsibility during the battle for Castle Black but also forming the more intimate relationship with Gilly. You will see how that goes into season five and you will also see how that is affected by the arrival of Stannis and everybody else”

It’s good to know that we will see Sam grow even further in Season 5. As an avid fan of the books, the television incarnation of Samwell Tarly is new and interesting to me, and even allows me to look forward to something I won’t necessarily see coming.
