MGoT update: Cogman losing his mind

Just kidding. I certainly would, given his schedule. He actually seems quite chipper. Then again, he has our freaking dream job …

In the latest Making Game of Thrones update, Dispatches From The Seven Kingdoms: Heading to Malta, Bryan Cogman gives us a peek into his hectic itinerary and reminds us that despite all the lovely little photographic goodness we’ve been given of late, there’s still plenty of work to be done:

We’ll be shooting material for nine episodes in Malta for several weeks. I’ll be here for about three weeks for the first block – Episodes III through VIII (Brian Kirk and Dan Minahan directing). Filming on Episodes I & II continues in Belfast (Tim Van Patten at the helm) and Alan Taylor has begun prep on Episodes IX and X. Needless to say, it’s a lot to keep straight.

Bryan also hints at a particular scene they have filmed in the streets of Mdina:

We’re using this atmospheric, medieval walled city for various exterior scenes set in King’s Landing, the capital city of Westeros. I want to be careful to avoid spoilers here, so all I can say is today we’re filming an important showdown from Episode V, featuring some impressive swordplay.

Fire and Blood: Sounds like a certain showdown on a certain rain-slicked street between a certain leading protagonist and a certain primary antagonist took place, resulting in the termination of a certain secondary (though certainly beloved) protagonist, whilst* another nigh-respected (or hated, take your pick) antagonist slipped away into the night.

Translation: There was some serious male acting talent in Mdina at that point!

Good stuff. Love the fact that we get regular updates even when our eyes have been recently sated by set photos. It’s a nice reminder that even though we’ve seen so much … there’s still a heavy load of work to do before we see a finished product. Keep it coming, Bryan!
