New Clip from Game of Thrones Season 5: The House of Black and White

Maisie Williams was on Jimmy Kimmel: Live last night as part of the promotional tour hyping the new Game of Thrones season. But before she came out, the show gave fans something to drool over: a scene from the new season. From the synopsis, we’re guessing it is from Episode 2. We have now, in several clips from both The Raven and the trailers, seen Arya arrive at the doors of the House of Black and White. This scene shows what happens when someone answers her knock. Let’s just say it doesn’t go quite as she was planning.

The clip is below, along with details from Maisie’s interview.

Like many members of the cast, Maisie hasn’t read the books, partly because she doesn’t want to get too good of an idea of what her character is like there, since the show is quickly diverging from the books. But she is vaguely aware of her character’s arc, and can knowledgeably say things like, “If you’ve read the books, you know this is an exciting place for her to be,” without giving too much away. I like how Kimmel refers to her knowledge as “the cliff notes” version. I would think  that, even if they didn’t want to know all the details, the actors would want to know the short version of their arcs. Then again, we know at least one actor who thought they knew their character’s storyline, and then got killed off early, so maybe not.

They also discuss her costume change, which Maisie has said before is one of the most exciting parts for her this season. I was a little surprised to hear that she hasn’t had a new costume since episode 3 of Season 1, because I thought the boy outfit was something that happening at the end of Season 1 once Yoren was disguising her to take out of King’s Landing. But I suppose that she’s not wrong that most of her outfits for that first season were made very early on, including the boy get up she becomes stuck in once Ned is killed.

As for the new scene, there have been suggestions that it is not Jaqen H’ghar she actually meets when she arrives at The House of Black and White, but that that is the face “The Kindly Man” will wear for her comfort, and for casting continuity with Tom Wlaschiha. That makes it a distinct possibility that the person closing the door in her face here is, in fact, the one we will come to know as “The Kindly Man.”

Is anyone else as excited to see Arya’s adventures in the House of Black and White?
