Kit Harington plays a spy in the trailer for Spooks: The Greater Good
Following his star turn in the poorly reviewed Pompeii (aka Jon Snow versus the Volcano), Kit Harington will take another swing at movie stardom with a leading role in Spooks: The Greater Good, a movie continuation of Spooks (called MI-5 in some countries), a long-running British TV series.
Harington will play Will Holloway, an employee of MI5, Britain’s version of the FBI. When a terrorist (played, incidentally, by Elyes Gabel, who also played Rakharo in Game of Thrones) escapes from custody, Holloway is tasked with tracking down both him and series mainstay Harry Pearce (Peter Firth), who disappeared shortly after the escape. Along the way, he’ll uncover a vast conspiracy, be told to “get in” mysterious cars, and say things like, “If you’re lying to me…” in a gravely voice. So basically, he’ll get the full spy movie experience.
Harington, who’s sporting his full-on Jon Snow hairdo in the trailer, also drops this little nugget. “I was in MI5 just long enough to realize: you can do good or you can do well. Sooner or later they make you choose.” I thought ‘good’ and ‘well’ were the same things, but perhaps Harington will enlighten us as to the difference when the movie is released in the UK in May.
Before getting this movie adaptation, Spooks ran for a full ten series between 2002 and 2011. As it’s been speculated that Game of Thrones might conclude with a movie once the series wraps up, perhaps this is Harington’s way of signaling to producers that he’d be okay with that?
