University of South Florida students get to see the Game of Thrones premiere early

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan and happen to live near Tampa, Florida, it may be worth it to gather a bunch of your friends together, pile into a car, and drive to the Marshall Student Center’s Oval Theater on the University of South Florida (USF) campus tonight. In a twist of fate that is cruel to all those not situated in the Tampa area, USF students will get to see Game of Thrones’ fifth season premiere nearly two weeks ahead of its official air date, the result of a Faustian pact between HBO and USF Housing and Residential Education. The two organizations have partnered to bring HBO Go to USF students. Why did HBO choose to partner with USF and bring this boon to students who already get to pursue their higher educations in a balmy paradise where seagulls sing them to sleep each night when other parts of the country have experienced freak snowfalls well into March? Because life is not fair. That’s why.

The episode will be screened tonight at 8:00 PM EST, although the doors will open at 6:30. Technically, the event is only open to USF students, but that needn’t stop the put-upon masses from storming the hall in wildling-like fashion to take what is theirs, not with fire and blood, but perhaps with wounded scowls and conscientious objections. Those unable to finagle their way inside the 700-seat hall can still participate in a costume contest, a photo booth, and a “live foam fight.” If the foam fight involves arming people with foam-based weaponry, as the name implies, the solution to how to battle one’s way inside the hall seems obvious.
