WSJ hints at possible season two locations
A new article in the Wall Street Journal focuses on the huge scale of the production of Game of Thrones. It talks about the sets, the large amounts of extras and crew, and Gemma Jackson’s inspiration for the “look o’ the show.” It says that HBO officially lists the budget at $60 million, but they cite an unnamed source that says it is closer to $100 million (which might be a bit of an exaggeration).
Most interesting to me though is this snippet from the article that casually mentions two potential season two locations (emphasis mine):
Before production began, fans posted renderings online of how they imagined colorful King’s Landing, the lush, chilly Winterfell and the eerie blood-covered Castle Black. “I of course ignored all of that because I wanted to make it my own world,” production designer Gemma Jackson said from Croatia, where she was scouting locations for season two before heading to Turkey.
Winter Is Coming: So Jackson is already scouting season two locations. That is a good sign. Yes, yes, nothing is “official” yet. But I can’t help but think we are 99% there. And Croatia and Turkey? Some interesting choices. I’m trying to think what topography and landscapes they might have that Northern Ireland and Malta don’t. Any thing come to mind for you?
