Game of Phones mashes Game of Thrones together with the smartphone revolution

The Game of Thrones recap market is a tough one. Everyone’s got their own take on it—you’ve got your Facebook recaps, your stick-figure animation recaps, and of course the most detailed, insightful written recaps you’ll ever see. Entertainment Weekly has thrown its hat into the ring with a series that imagines what intense conversations from the series would look like if they took place on smartphones. It’s Game of Phones, and it’s happening.

EW has put out an entry for every episode of Game of Thrones’ fifth season so far. For “The Wars to Come,” EW works over the scene where Tyrion becomes the sloppiest drunk this side of the Narrow Sea, reimagining it as a series of drunk texts complete with garbled spelling.

Next, EW covers “The House of Black and White,” and we find out that all those titles Daenerys throws around are impressive when spoken and impractical when written down.

In “High Sparrow,” Margaery tempted fate by poking the sleeping giant that is Cersei Lannister. Then she kicked the giant, put the giant in a headlock, and doused the giant with a bucket of blood at the giant’s prom. Which is to say she made a lot of veiled insults. Here’s what it would be like if she did it all in text message form.

The latest episode in the series covers some of the events from “Sons of the Harpy.” EW has stuck to the King’s Landing story, since I suppose the ongoing squabbling between Cersei and Margaery is well-suited to text messages.
