Who’s going to die in Game of Thrones Season 7? Odds on 50 characters
Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish
I’m being generous when I say Littlefinger might make it to the end of Season 7. Truthfully, I could see him clocking out at Episode 3, although that might be too soon for the end I imagine for him. Whatever the specifics of his death, one thing remains clear: Sansa will bring about his downfall. She might not swing the sword—that’s better left to Jon or, hey, even Arya—but she will condemn him to his fate.
From the beginning, Littlefinger’s motives have, in some way, centered on gaining Catelyn Stark’s favor, and her hand. In Season 2, he brought her husband’s bones to her and in the same breath proposed that perhaps this was the universe’s way of shipping them. “I’ve loved you since I was a boy. It seems to me that fate has given us this chance.” Two seasons later, he shoves Lysa—his wife and Catelyn’s sister—out the Moon Door after confirming that Cat had always been his only love.
Once Cat was dead—maybe even before then—Littlefinger switched focus to her daughter. He’s brought nothing but destruction and devastation to Sansa’s family from the start. And at this point, he’s really fulfilled his purpose. Littlefinger lives to serve himself, and there’s not much room left for those kinds of political machinations. The White Walkers aren’t tuned into this medieval Keeping Up with the Kardashians. They don’t care who’s who; seemingly, they just want to kill everyone. But my money’s on Littlefinger’s death before they come knocking, anyway. He has no place in this battle, and there’s no use for him afterwards.
There are quite a few people on their way to Winterfell who care about Sansa. No one cares about Littlefinger. And these people have information that will ensure Sansa lays down a death sentence: Littlefinger betrayed Ned, leading to his death. Depending on how it plays out, any number of these people could out him: Tyrion, Varys, the Hound, or even Bran (who might learn about it via a vision).
So sayonara, Littlefinger. It’s been fun. And, quite frankly, rather creepy.
Chance of survival: 5%
