Meera Reed

Blood of My Blood

I have a soft spot in my heart for Meera Reed, the long-suffering protectress of guys with greensight. She is all good, all courage, all nurturing in a world where such characters rarely survive for long. She lost her brother Jojen to the undead, but didn’t shirk her duties as Bran’s bodyguard, a role amplified in importance tenfold after Hodor perished holding the door.

Still on the wrong side of the Wall, Bran and Meera likely have more horrors in their future. With her black curly locks (and the fact that her father was present during Ned Stark’s fight at the Tower of Joy), fans once wondered if Meera might Jon Snow’s twin sister, but Bran’s vision in “Oathbreaker” nixed that theory. It seems certain that Meera’s destiny is to make sure that Bran achieves his.

Both Bran and Meera are loving, intelligent, big-hearted heroes. Personally, I’m hoping sparks fly between them. I mean, these two kids deserve some happiness. Most would give her long odds on survival, however, considering the high mortality rate of all those who have tried to protect Bran during his journey.

Yet we remain hopeful. Bran will always need someone to carry him, to protect him, to be willing to march through an icy hell to get him where he needs to go. And Meera Reed is the right girl for the job.

Chance of survival: 60%
