Game of Thrones 2017 preview: What’s on the way this year
Season 7 costumes
When we think of winter, the colors that come to mind are drab—lots of greys, blues, blacks and whites. Season 7’s costume department looks like it’s staying on theme.
The Queen’s Colors
Cersei is fond of dressing in golds and reds, but she changed her palette after blowing up the Sept of Baelor in Season 6’s “The Winds of Winter,” wearing a black dress with silver shoulder plates. It’s a bold new look for the new Queen of the Andals, one it looks like she’s extended to her guards, as you can see below.

However, Jaime still sports the traditional Lannister red and gold armor.

Is Jaime’s choice to keep his house colors a sign of a widening gulf between brother and sister?
Queen vs Queen
Another point of interest is just how similar Cersei’s outfit looks to Dany’s new Westerosi look. They’re both wearing a lot more black than they used to.
You can see Clarke, as Daenerys, walking alongside Conleth Hill (Varys) below.

ROOOOOAAAR!
(Tyrion is clearly having *none* of this, by the way.) pic.twitter.com/bZbHWbLY7A— Purrbot (@PurrbotKitty) October 28, 2016
After years in the warm climates of Essos, where she could wear outfits that showed a little more skin, the Dragon Queen seems fine acclimating to her new homeland with thicker outfit. Even Tyrion and Missandei switched things up to match their Queen’s new look.
Battle Formations
In Stark children news, Arya Stark seems to have traded in her Braavosi rags for some Northern duds.

We’ve seen her brothers Robb and Jon wear similar kinds of leather outfits in the past, so this kind of garb may signal more time on the battlefield for the little swordsman.
It’s also worth mentioning that Game of Thrones was recently nominated for a Costume Designer Guild Award. April Ferry and Michele Clapton, both of whom worked on Season 6. They’ll share the award if they win on February 21st.
