Game of Thrones Episode 505—Kill the Boy—Preview
It’s hard to believe that we’ll be halfway through Season 5 of Game of Thrones by the time “Kill the Boy” ends on Sunday. The first four episodes on the year have generally burn slow burners, but “Sons of the Harpy” ended on a monster cliffhanger that seems to have generated a lot of anticipation for the rest of the season. Plus, the preview video for “Kill the Boy” teases some particularly exciting scenes. In particular, the shot of Tyrion looking up as Drogon flies overhead is something of a watershed moment for the series, as plotlines long separated by the Narrow Sea finally start to collide.
I’m also excited to get into the thick of Sansa’s story, as her visit to Winterfell has been one of the season’s most intriguing turns. Still, I keep coming back to the shot of Tyrion staring slack-jawed at Drogon. It reminds me a bit of the shots from Jurassic Park when the characters first see the dinosaurs—there’s nothing like some good old fashioned awe to liven things up.
Here’s HBO’s synopsis of “Kill the Boy”: Dany (Emilia Clarke) makes a difficult decision in Meereen. Jon (Kit Harington) recruits the help of an unexpected ally. Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) searches for Sansa (Sophie Turner). Theon (Alfie Allen) remains under Ramsay’s (Iwan Rheon) control.
I’m betting that the “unexpected ally” Jon recruits is Tormund, and that the Night’s Watch won’t be terribly happy about it. I hope that the description of Brienne “searching for Sansa” doesn’t portend a lot of plodding scenes in which she investigates a question to which we already know the answer. Sansa’s at Winterfell, Brienne! Go there! Hopefully it’s just a figure of speech.
