HBO releases eight new images from “The Gift”
It’s that time of the week again, the time when HBO starts to hype the forthcoming episode of Game of Thrones by releasing new photos. The network has let out eight new images from “The Gift,” the seventh episode of the show’s fifth season. Let’s take a look.
Pictured: Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen. Photographer: Macall B. Polay/HBOThis is the only image of Daenerys in the batch, and it shows the Mother of Dragons looking none too pleased about something. Is she reluctantly opening the fighting pits? Reluctantly marrying Hizdahr? Reluctantly listening to Jorah as he blabbers on about how he’s changed, and look, he brought her a dwarf? I don’t know, but whatever she’s doing here, she’s definitely doing it reluctantly.

Here we have a strikingly lit shot of Jaime and Myrcella having a conversation. It’s good to see that things have calmed down a bit in Dorne since last week’s attempted rescue/kidnapping debacle. Hopefully that speed will be a better fit for this plot. After all, these two have rather a lot to talk about.

From sun to snow. Jon Snow gives Jon Snow face as he stands in the yard at Castle Black and contemplates going to Hardhome. Is that Olly in the background? I can’t quite tell, but if it is Olly, he’s doubtlessly thinking mutinous thoughts.

Elsewhere at Castle Black, Sam and Gilly gaze at one another. Rumor has it that “The Gift” may adapt Sam and Gilly’s sex scene from A Feast for Crows, so this look may could places.

Stannis and Davos talk strategy on their way to Winterfell. In A Dance with Dragons, Stannis’ path is seriously impeded by raging blizzards. Based on the load of snow visible through the tent roof, he may have that problem on the show, too.

Finally, we have a few shots of the goings-on in King’s Landing. Here, Cersei comforts young Tommen, probably while telling him that letting his wife be executed for lying in the Sparrows’ crazy kangaroo court is a good idea. He’ll understand when he’s older.

Tommen’s so upset, he hasn’t even touched his dinner. Poor, poor Tommen.
Pictured: Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrell.Photographer: Macall B. Polay/HBO
Lady Olenna Tyrell returned to King’s Landing last week only to have both her grandchildren arrested before her eyes. She is, we assume, most displeased. It looks like she’s in the alley where Cersei met the High Sparrow several episodes back. If she’s planning on talking to the High Sparrow, will she be able to make him see things her way? The man is pretty implacable, but Olenna has moved mountains before.
