Game of Thrones: A look inside Season 5, Episode 7 “The Gift”

WARNING: This video contains two major spoilers for Episode 507 “The Gift.” If you wish you remain Unsullied, then turn back now.

OSN has released, ahead of HBO’s usual schedule, the Inside the Episode featurette for “The Gift,” this Sunday’s new episode of Game of Thrones. This isn’t the first time OSN has done this, as it did the same thing for “Kill the Boy.” So, if you’re sure you don’t mind seeing two major show spoilers, then watch the video…but again, this is your last warning.

Let’s break this down, shall we?

  • Maester Aemon is dead. I mean, he was over 100 years old, so it’s not like this was unexpected. The only issue here is that he didn’t die on his journey to the Citadel, as he did in the books.
  • This seems to be a major moment that will deeply affect Sam, and adds context to that snippet of Ser Alliser telling Sam that all his friends were leaving him.
  • Maester Aemon’s body is being burned, like all Targaryens before him. Also, there’s that whole thing were his body might reanimate and kill everyone there.
  • Aemon’s death is the first “natural” death in the series.
  • I am going to cry…like a lot.
  • Another Daario and Dany sexytime scene.
  • Daario is trying to convince Dany to become the butcher queen that he knows she must be.
  • Benioff and Weiss seem to be really pointing us to Dany’s transformation from the contented sitting queen, to the Mother of Dragons, once again.
  • Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow delivers that line from the trailer that aired before the season. He is scary.
  • Cersei keeps her iconic smirk right up until Lancel comes out from behind the corner, and then it’s an “oh shit” look that covers her face.
  • Looks like we may have had our first look, albeit shadowy, of Septa Unella, as she gratifyingly tosses Cersei into her cell.

From this video, it appears as if Episode 507 is going to be a dark and sad affair. But hey, isn’t that why we love to watch Game of Thrones?
