Winter is Coming Live—The Gift

Welcome back to WiC Live, where your friendly neighborhood Game of Thrones nerds Adam Rady, Alison Haislip, and Xavier Brinkman break down the latest episode. Today, they take a deep dive into “The Gift,” last night’s rollicking romp through slavery and religious fanaticism. Let’s watch!

You know, Game of Thrones might be single-handedly responsible for reviving the proper meaning of “bastard.” The word used to mean any person born out of wedlock, but has since become yet another synonym for “jackass.” Game of Thrones uses the old meaning of the word, and Westeros is littered with bastards, many of whom are pretty likable characters. We’ve got Jon Snow, Gendry, Tommen, Ramsay…well, not all of them are likable. Below, each member of the WiC Live panel chimes in with their pic for the best bastard on Game of Thrones.

From the Wall to Meereen, there was a lot going on in “The Gift.” The team debates their favorite storylines below, with Cersei’s adventures in comeuppance earning special praise.

Things have been pretty quiet on the death front since Ser Barristan met his end back in “Sons of the Harpy,” but now that we’re heading into the last chunk of the season, you know blood will be spilled. Who will die next on Game of Thrones?

Next, the panel answers a question from Game of Thrones Twitter warrior gbnf: why would Dany trust Tyrion? It’s a good question that the show will have to address over the next couple of episodes.

Shireen has been extra adorable this season, so of course the show threatened her with death last night when Melisandre suggested sacrificing her for the war effort. The Red Woman best stay away from Shireen, or I will…be upset.

Thanks as always to Entertainment Weekly for making this show happen, and to you guys for watching and talking back! Tweet whatever questions you have about this and any other episode of Game of Thrones to #WiC, so the panel can talk about them on next week’s episode. Give us fuel for our argumentative fire.
