Gethin Anthony Distressed By Recent Game of Thrones Events

Gethin Anthony is one of the many “gone but not forgotten” characters in the Game of Thrones family. The man who had the distinction of the first throne claimant to die in the War of the Five Kings has left the mortal coil of Westeros, but here on earth he’s still a huge fan of the show. The current project he’s doing the interview rounds for may be NBC’s Aquarius, where he plays a creepy Charles Manson, but that hasn’t stopped at least a few interviewers from slipping in questions about his feelings on the current political situation in King’s Landing.

In USA Today, Anthony bemoans the fates of those who once loved and married the Tyrell siblings:

“When they arrested Margaery and Loras, I was saying, ‘My queen! My man! Are you kidding me? I’m getting angry!’ ”

Perhaps next time Margaery suggests a three-way in order to get an heir and claimant on the throne, he’ll be more amenable to the suggestion. After all, his refusal is what put her on the road to marrying two of the three Lannister children. As for the man who did him in, Anthony admits he hasn’t forgiven Stannis, and he’s rooting against Team Baratheon from ever making it to the Iron Throne. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t,” he admits.

But the truth is that Anthony, now that he’s out of the game, tries to keep himself Unspoiled so that moments like that can shock him.

“I let the weeks go by and then I mini-binge. I now get to watch it as the audience does and it’s really fun. I stopped asking (Thrones colleagues) what’s coming up a couple of years ago. I can experience the shock and sometimes the depression and sadness with everyone else.”

In the end, all the King wanted was to be like the common man. Isn’t that always the way?
