“Hardhome” director Miguel Sapochnik Hints He’ll Return for Season 6
We’ve got our first hint at who will be directing for next season, and it looks like we’ve got at least one director from this season on tap to return.
Miguel Sapochnik was new to the Game of Thrones director’s chair this season, but he wasn’t new to the dystopian fantasy genre, having worked on Fringe, Falling Skies, and Under The Dome. “Hardhome” may have only been his second directorial outing on the show (he also directed the rock-solid “The Gift”), but the critics seem to be universal in their agreement that his staging of the Massacre at Hardhome was a triumph. Unlike Shireen’s death, which will apparently be happening somewhere down the line in The Winds of Winter, the massacre at Hardhome represented something the producers created from whole cloth, greatly expanding on something that was only indirectly hinted at in the books. Although some may argue otherwise (and we still have one more episode to go), it’s looking like episode 8 was the pinnacle of Season 5. And with more battles between the army of the dead and the Night’s King in the future, it’s no surprise that the show would be keen to bring Sapochnik back.
