Storyboarding Arya in the Hall of Faces
All season long, we’ve been treated to select storyboards mocked up by designer Will Simpson for use on the show. For the season finale, Making Game of Thrones is featuring the sketches that provided the template for how Arya’s punishment in the Hall of Faces would be staged.
“Jaqen hes dead.” For Arya, what follows is a revelation about just how far down the rabbit hole she’s gone. The House of Black and White LLC’s magic and methods have dimensions neither she nor we understand.
One of the biggest problems Arya has had this season in trying to join this assassin’s guild has been her incomprehension of what it truly means to become “no one.”
Though Arya survives one of the bloodiest finales of the series, she is struck blind for her crime of stealing a face from the Hall before she was ready and using it to kill for her own ends, instead of for an assignment. Hopefully, this punishment will help her learn to erase her sense of self, or at least become a better liar, and help her on the road to her destiny as a Faceless Man.
