Rupert Vansittart (Yohn Royce) returning to Season 6
Actor Rupert Vansittart, who portrayed Yohn Royce in Game of Thrones Seasons 4 and 5, recently sat down with Flicks and the City to talk about his time on set and revealed that he will be in Season 6 for what he describes as “a couple” more scenes. The interview is a bit lengthy, but he mentions Seasons 5 and 6 around the 3:20 mark.
Vansittart admits that he doesn’t know what is going to happen to his character, although he does know he has been booked.
When last we saw the Lord of Runestone in the Season 5 premiere, he agreed to foster the young and sickly Robin Arryn. His goal was to instruct the Lord of the Eyrie, head of House Arryn, Warden of the East and Lord Paramount of the Vale of Arryn, in the ways of a true Lord. In “The Wars to Come,” Lord Royce sits in the stands with Littlefinger and Sansa Stark as Robin is practicing swordplay.
Yohn Royce’s son, Waymar, was one of the first deaths on Game of Thrones. He was a ranger for the Night’s Watch, and died in an altercation with a White Walkers in Season 1, Episode 1—”Winter is Coming.” His other son, Robar, was a member of Renly Baratheon’s Kingsguard, but after Renly was killed by a shadow with Stannis Baratheon’s face, Brienne of Tarth slew him when he blamed her for killing her King.
It’s unclear what Bronze Yohn Royce will be doing in Season 6, but if Littlefinger returns to the Vale in order to gather its army to march on Winterfell and rout the surviving members of House Bolton, it’s safe to assume that Lord Royce would join him. If we do see Royce ride with the army to Winterfell, might we also see young Robin Arryn again? How about introducing Harry the Heir? Only time will tell, and we seem to have a lot of it between now and next season, so let the speculation begin.
