Casting dates announced for Game of Thrones extras in Girona, Spain
A few weeks ago, we learned that the Game of Thrones production would be heading back to Spain to film scenes for Season 6, although it will be visiting different locales than it did ahead of Season 5. Specifically, it’ll be heading to the cities of Girona and Peñíscola (and probably Almería). Rumors about casting dates for extras have been flying since then, but we now have confirmation for the dates in Girona.
Modexpor International, the company responsible for casting extras for the show’s sixth season, recently posted a notice to Twitter giving hopeful extras all the information they need to know.
Por fin la noticia que estabais esperando, os adjuntamos la convocatoria del Casting pic.twitter.com/6vgns56R7f

Game of Thrones has a rather fervid following in Spain, so Modexpor International took care to say that it won’t be looking at more than 1200 men and 1200 women. The casting call will be open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on both June 29 and June 30. Filming will occur in Girona between September 3 and 18 of this year.
Here are some other highlights from the notice, roughly translated from the original Spanish text on Los Siete Reinos.
- Modexpor is looking for “Men and women 18 to 65 years of all races.” This makes sense, as the show will need people of all ages to fill out the population of whatever Westerosi city Girona will stand in for. In general, it wants local people from the area.
- Preference will be given to “thin” people, because it’s TV, and there’s a call for “men with good physical condition (not bodybuilders).” It wants “men with short hair/women with long hair. People with very modern hairstyles will be removed from the casting.” So no vulgar words shaved into the back of your head, extras. That’s not medieval.
Hair in general is a touchy area with Modexpor. The notice is very specific as to what not to do.
- “The hair color should be uniform, without streaks, not worth these hair colors: verder, red, violet, azil, pink, Californian wicks, etc …”
- “Men should be prepared to let grow or cut your facial hair.”
Finally, no one with tattoos will be admitted. So they’re not casting Patchface.
Around WiC, we’ve theorized that Girona may stand in for Oldtown, since some of its architecture looks like it would be a good fit. Sam’s bound to arrive there at some point next year. Still, we can’t know for sure yet. According to the notice, casting dates for extras in Peñíscola will be announced shortly, so we’ll be tumbling down that rabbit hole anytime now.
