Season 1: As a knight of the Kingsguard, Jaime is part of King Robert Baratheon’s retinue when he travels to Winterfell to recruit Ned Stark as his new Hand of the King. Bran Stark catches him and his twin sister Cersei having sex in a room at the top of a tall tower; to protect their secret, Jaime shoves Bran off the tower, permanently paralyzing him. After clashing with Ned Stark in King’s Landing, Jaime rides to join his father in the field. He is given command of one of the Lannister armies, but captured by Robb Stark at the Battle of Whispering Wood. At the Stark camp, Catelyn confronts Jaime, who ultimately reveals that he is the one responsible for Bran’s paralysis, though he doesn’t reveal the reason why.
Season 2: Catelyn later releases Jaime, sending him back to King’s Landing with Brienne of Tarth as a prisoner exchange for the Stark daughters.
Season 3: Jaime and Brienne are captured by Bolton forces, and Jaime loses his sword hand. Lord Roose Bolton allows them to depart, and they arrive in King’s Landing in time for King Joffrey’s marriage.
Season 4: Jaime’s lack of hand leads to strife with his sister and lover Queen Cersei, as well as his self-image as he attempts to re-learn how to fight. He asks Brienne to find Arya and Sansa Stark to fulfill the terms of his release. Jaime attempts to save his brother Tyrion at the latter’s trial for the murder of King Joffrey, first negotiating with his father, then working with Varys to release Tyrion after the trial by combat.
