Character Overview: Lady Melisandre of Asshai is a priestess of R’hllor. She joined the service of Stannis Baratheon in his fight for the Iron Throne, believing him to be the reborn ancient hero Azor Ahai. She is described as a great beauty and is regularly dressed all in red; the centerpiece of these outfits is the red-gold choker with a ruby setting that glows whenever she works magic. Melisandre has prophetic powers that give her partial knowledge of future events; these powers relate to her great faith and trust in her god. – Wiki of Ice & Fire
Recent Events: Melisandre is responsible for the death of Renly Baratheon via the use of magic, to which Faith of the Seven believer Davos Seaworth is witness. She remains at Dragonstone during the Battle of Blackwater Bay, where Stannis’s forces are ultimately defeated by the Lannisters (particularly the cleverness of Tywin’s youngest, Tyrion). Afterwards, she leeches blood from Gendry, the last living bastard of Robert Baratheon, and has Stannis cast them into the fire while naming the “false kings”: Robb Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, and Balon Greyjoy, all of whom have made claim to the Iron Throne. Of the three, Robb Stark and Joffrey Baratheon have perished. Afterwards, Melisandre accompanies Stannis and his forces as they assist the Night’s Watch in defending the Wall against Mance Rayder’s force of wildlings and other creatures.
