Character Overview: Ser Rodrik Casell serves House Stark as Master-at-arms of Winterfell. He is uncle to Jory Cassel.
Recent Events: Rodrik stays behind in Winterfell when Ned Stark is chosen as Robert’s new Hand of the King, but eventually follows Catelyn to King’s Landing in pursuit of the truth behind Bran’s assassination attempt. He and Catelyn eventually seize Tyrion Lannister and take him to the Eyrie for trial; in the aftermath (as Tyrion escapes punishment through trial by combat), he and Catelyn return to Robb, who takes up arms against the Lannisters when Ned Stark is imprisoned for claiming that Joffrey is not Robert’s true heir.
Not long after, Rodrik is sent back to Winterfell by Robb to protect Bran and Rickon. During Theon Greyjoy’s greedy plundering of the North, Rodrik is taken hostage. Theon initially plans to throw Rodrik in the dungeons, but Rodrik spits in his face, declaring him a traitor. Theon is then forced to order an execution, which he must do himself per the customs of the North. Rodrik’s execution is sloppy; it takes Theon several tries before Rodrik’s head is properly severed from his body.
Actor Bio: Ron Donachie is a familiar face from British television and film, with roles in the film version of Titanic and in TV series such as Heartbeat, Rebus, Doctor Who, The Bill, Taggart, and just about every major British TV series of the last twenty years.
