as Davos Seaworth
Character Overview: Davos Seaworth, commonly called the Onion Knight, was once a smuggler, but became a landed knight and Stannis Baratheon’s most honest and loyal supporter. He captains the Black Betha, his old smuggling ship. He has several sons who serve as captains of their own ships or as officers on his ship. – Wiki of Ice & Fire
Recent Events: Davos attempts to guide Stannis Baratheon to make peace with Renly so that they might face Joffrey together, but Stannis’s ear has been turned by Melisandre, with whom Davos has many disagreements–particularly religion. Nonetheless, Davos recruits old pirate friend Salladhor Saan to fight for Stannis. They attempt to assault Blackwater Bay in King’s Landing but are ultimately rebuffed by the Lannisters. During the fight, Davos is thrown from his ship and washes up on an islet, where he is soon rescued and taken back to Dragonstone.
Melisandre believes that Davos’s insistence on leaving her behind during the Battle of Blackwater is what led to Stannis’s defeat; Davos is subsequently thrown into the dungeons, where he is regularly visited by Stannis’s daughter Shireen. Shireen teaches Davos how to read, but is soon in conflict with Stannis and Melisandre again as they hatch a scheme to leech the blood of Gendry in order to further make us of Melisandre’s magical powers, something Davos strongly objects to. Davos rebels by freeing Gendry, though not before Melisandre leeches his blood and uses it to prophesize the deaths of Joffrey Baratheon, Robb Stark, and Balon Greyjoy.
After Joffrey’s death, Davos suggests employing a sellsword company from across the Narrow Sea to help Stannis in his cause; his best idea comes, however, as he’s continuing his reading sessions with Shireen. Remembering that the Iron Throne is in debt to the Iron Bank of Braavos Davos and Stannis travel to Braavos to argue for their cause, believing that if the Bank switches sides in order to seek repayment, they will have a better chance of winning the Throne. They are successful; their next destination is the Wall, where they aid Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch in fending off the wildlings and Thenns led by Mance Rayder.
