Game of Thrones Stars Hit SAG Red Carpet, talk Season 5
It wasn’t the best of nights for Game of Thrones at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. Television is a competitive landscape nowadays, and the show lost their big nomination–that of “Outstanding Ensemble”–to the PBS juggernaut Downton Abbey. Peter Dinklage also left empty handed, losing the Male Actor in a Drama Series to Kevin Spacey. (It looks like he as tipped off he wouldn’t win either, as Dinklage did not appear on the red carpet.) The show wasn’t completely shut out though. Continuing its impressive streak in the Stunt Ensemble category, Game of Thrones took home their fourth win in four years.
Unlike the Golden Globes, which few cast members bothered to attend, there was a solid showing from the cast on the red carpet for the SAGs. We’ve got pictures, plus the few tidbits they let slide about Season 5, after the jump.
Kit Harington’s been the loosest lips on Season 5 so far, and he didn’t disappoint last night. Talking to E!, he said Season 5 would be “lavish.” “They’re throwing money at it.” Things that a season ago the show would be told it could not afford suddenly have the budget, and he promised “huge action sequences that would leave us wanting more.”
Natalie Dormer also got ambushed by E!, but she was a little more demur. She emphasized what a great chance this was for the cast, especially those who don’t get to see each other all the time during filming with all the far-flung locations.
Emilia Clarke, who is unfortunately already making Worst Dressed lists in this unflattering Donna Karan was also tight-lipped. She preferred to emphasize how her character’s strength influences her in real life. “It’s good; it gives you so much confidence when you get to go out and be a complete badass.” But as for exactly what badassery we’ll be seeing next year, she didn’t say.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau managed not to be ambushed by E!, which was a shame. I really want more information about Jaime Lannister going to Dorne.
Maisie Williams also managed to avoid being interviewed on camera. Considering that now two of the “Raven Sights” have focused on her upcoming storyline, if she didn’t want to give anything away, that might have been for the best.
Sophie Turner won for Best Shoes of the evening, which added a bit of whimsy to her new “I’m a Big Time Actress” look that she’s starting to sport.
And finally, I’ve decided Gwen Christie needs to find a polite way to not wear her boyfriend’s work on the red carpet. This is at least flattering from the waist up, but those architectural Zac-Posen-on-a-Bad-Day folds at the hips need to be put out of their misery.
