Journalists tour Dubrovnik for Game of Thrones

Dubrovnik, Croatia has become an tourist destination in the wake of Game of Thrones filming there these past few years. Now The Dubrovnik Times is reporting that the Tourist Board has arranged for a bevy of international journalists to take a gander at the city that this year split it’s time between standing in for Braavos and King’s Landing.

A press group of journalists visited Dubrovnik this weekend in cooperation with the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Embassy Films and HBO. “Dubrovnik was born to be King’s Landing,” commented Tom Butler a journalist for Yahoo Movies. The group of journalists,  from MTV, The Sun, The Daily Star, Yahoo Movies, Metro News, The Radio Times, IGN and E Talk, amongst others, visited all the locations in Dubrovnik used by the Game of Thrones serial.

Remind us to get international passports and press badges so we can go next time too!

More details of the journalists’ trip below the jump.

Dubrovnik acts as the capital of the Seven Kingdoms, Kings Landing, in the popular serial and is therefore key to the entire story. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board organised a special “Game of Thrones” inspired menu for the journalists. The restaurant Ragusa, located in the Old City of Dubrovnik, prepared the special dinner which included beef stew, roast chicken with honey and raisins and salad with apple and pine nuts.

I hope they pulled their recipes from Inn at the Crossroads.

The Dubrovnik travel agency, Elite, organised the Game of Thrones tour for the foreign journalists which included locations that have been used over the past few years, such as the Rectors Palace, the Lovrijenac Fortress, Pile and even the Trsteno Arboretum.

Game of Thrones is a huge economic boost to the city, both in terms of jobs and money. Spain saw a huge boost in tourism from only hosting this coming season. So it makes sense for Dubrovnik to try to improve that.
