Meanwhile in Essos…with Iain Glen & Nathalie Emmanuel

It’s probably one of Daenerys Targaryen’s biggest frustrations with Western media that when we talk about Game of Thrones, we usually immediately start talking about the continent of Westeros and the political machinations of King’s Landing, run by the Usurper and his Lannister overlords.

For the first time since its debut, the show will have multiple storylines happening on the much larger and much more diverse continent of Essos. But in the run up to Season 5, we’re still focusing on Westeros. To that end, two of Dany’s most loyal subjects, Iain Glen (Ser Jorah) & Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) sat down with Nova Cinema, HBO’s distribution partner in Greece, for an interview to talk about what’s happening across the Narrow Sea.

I love how Glenn refuses to confirm a lot of what we already know, including that he fights in the slave pits as shown in the trailers (instead, he just calls this “a very physical season”). He also won’t confirm or deny that he will run into Tyrion as he does in the books, instead saying that he “gets to work with actors on the show he’s not dealt with before.” Emmanuel talks more about the emotional journey of her character than the plot details. Both of them agree that Daenerys should be the one to sit on the Iron Throne, and not just because of their characters’ loyalty to her. Both actors clearly believe Daenerys to be the best candidate.

Game of Thrones Season 5 will air in Greece just after midnight April 12/13 as part of the simulcast with HBO.
