Storyboarding Brienne’s Fight Scene In The House of Black and White

Making Game of Thrones once again brings us the storyboard concept behind a scene from the most recent episode. Last week plotted out Mance’s death. This week’s storyboard walks us through the action-heavy sequence in “The House of Black and White” where Brienne fights several soldiers on horseback and saves Pod’s life.

Because these storyboards, drawn by Will Simpson, are done weeks to months ahead of the filming of the scenes, this set is extra fascinating. The following images go through the fight as it was originally planned out. But because the river Pod fell into wouldn’t behave on the day of filming, the whole scene had to be re-blocked at the last minute. So this is not what ended up on screen. Well, it’s sort of what we ended up with on screen. Just a lot less wet.

In the show, Pod climbs out of the river and throws stones at the guard. Here, that all takes place in the middle of the water right where he fell, until Brienne charges in.
