Inside The Episode: “The Gift”

Once again, the “Inside The Episode” clip leaked prior to the episode this week. (That’s twice this season that’s happened.) Like last time, we’ll still embed the clip below, for those who either missed it, or abstained. For everyone else, skip down to the rest of the production deep dives.

For those that waited, this week’s producer’s deep dive for “The Gift” focused on the death of Aemon, Daario’s advice, and the showdown between Cersei and the High Sparrow.

We already broke this down in detail when it leaked, but in light of now having seen the episode, it’s interesting that the producers, rather than discuss the big meeting between Dany and Tyrion, instead choose to look at her continuing string of bad decisions.

George R.R. Martin focuses this week on the scene with Bronn and the Sand Snakes and gives a little comparative history of the poisoning of Bronn vs the poisoning of The Mountain.

John Bradley and Hannah Murray discuss their bond, and the danger Gilly is in now at Castle Black.

And finally, this week’s clip features the showdown between Cersei and Jonathan Pryce, the one where the High Sparrow gives the “Strip away the gold” speech we’ve been hearing clips of since the first trailer for the season.

I’m still struck by Cersei’s helpless screams which echo Margaery’s line last week. “I am the Queen.” Like that means anything here…It really speaks to how little Cersei realized the danger she was in. After all, if the current Queen can say that and it means nothing, why should it be any different for the Queen Regent?
