The Beautiful Death of The Sons of the Harpy
I’ll admit, I was hoping for a poster honoring Shireen. Instead, illustrator Robert Ball has chosen to honor the other fiery deaths of the episode for this entry of his Beautiful Death series.
If anything, what this poster helps cement in my mind is that the fiery deaths in Meereen are the flip side of the coin to the icy ones in Hardhome. Especially since both posters have small figures on the bottom—theirs were deaths of ice and fire. I love the use of the necklace-as-Drogon. I have not always been a fan of Dany’s outfits this season, but her necklaces have all been stunning, especially this one. And of course, the line of the episode is the one Dany speaks to Drogon before they leave: “Valahd.” (For those who are puzzling over that word in Valyrian, since the command for “Fly” should be sōvēs, from the verb sōvegon, Peterson noticed and talks about that here.)
But I still am sorry it’s not Shireen.
