Game of Thrones casting new speaking and non-speaking parts In Ireland
With all the news and rumors concerning casting calls in the new Spain-based locations for Game of Thrones Season 6, it might be easy to overlook some of the places the show has been working in for the last five years. But fret not—the production hasn’t forgotten about it’s other locations. According to BelfastLive, the show is also looking to pull new talent from the local Irish pool. Lemon Casting, a local agency, has been asked to start scouting for potential talent—and not just extras, but also speaking roles for Season 6.

“There are huge opportunities for people to really make something good of this. If they find people suitable for extras that’s all well and good, but if they find someone in Belfast for a lead role, that’s all the better. There are no hard and fast rules for the Game of Thrones bosses, they’re flexible and they know what works and they love raw talent. They have asked Lemon Casting to throw it out there and see who comes to them. Who knows what might happen in the next series of the show…perhaps a Belfast accent or two.”
Lemon Casting, which is actually based out of Manchester in England, confirmed to BelfastLive that they had indeed been asked to scout for Game of Thrones, along with several other productions. They are starting in the Belfast area, looking to see if they can fill the slots with local talent, before going republic-wide and looking for talent in all of Ireland.
This isn’t all that surprising, looking over the casting lists that have dropped in the last few weeks. Both have been Northern-heavy, with many larger roles that require a Northern English accent. If the plan next season is to spend a good deal of time in the North, that means a great deal of filming in Belfast Studios. Bringing in local talent that already live in the area for the smaller speaking roles not only makes sense for the North, which is full of thick, non plummy-type accents, but will also save money.
