Qyburn

Qyburn plays Bingo!

Qyburn is an interesting case. To me, his chances of survival pretty much equal his chances of dying. Presently, his loyalty lies with Cersei, but how much of that is self-serving? As it stands now, Qyburn is safe in the Red Keep and free to experiment as he likes. Cersei has given him free reign where the Citadel ostracized him. For that, he may well be grateful.

But how much will that count for when Daenerys comes calling? Now, I don’t think it’s going to be easy for Daenerys to dethrone Cersei, if that is indeed what happens at all. Cersei isn’t stupid—she’s clever and self-sufficient, and with her children dead she has nothing left to lose. She’ll be more merciless than she was before. All the same, though, her time is coming. So what will become of Qyburn then?

Perhaps he’ll die in the struggle, or he’ll swear allegiance to whoever can keep him alive. I’d love to see Qyburn make it through ‘til the end. His pursuit of knowledge may be somewhat unsettling, but he really champions the age of modern medicine. That could come in really handy in Season 8.

The end result all depends on Qyburn’s motives. I don’t think he’s the type of man to remain loyal when it doesn’t suit him, and eventually Cersei’s usefulness to him will run out. It’s a toss-up as to whether or not Qyburn will come out a winner, but I’m definitely rooting for him.

Chance of survival: 50%
