Sandor “the Hound” Clegane

GoT 607 50 hound axe

After sitting out Season 5, Sandor Clegane returned from the edge of death in Season 6, popping up in the most peaceful little hamlet in all of Westeros. Sadly (if predictably), the Hound’s little paradise did not last. After rogue members of the Brotherhood Without Banners destroyed Septon Ray’s settlement, the Hound did what he does best: commit murder and cut one-liners. After killing the perpetrators, the actual Brotherhood offered him a chance to join them and fight the “cold winds rising in the North.”

We’re going to assume that the Hound accepted the offer, which puts him in harm’s way. Assuming the Brotherhood hooks up with the new King in the North (or even if they go it alone), the Hound and the rest of the Brotherhood could be in for quite a fight if the White Walkers finally make it south of the Wall.

Even though we expect the bodies to pile up in the coming war, we don’t think the Hound will be among them, at least not yet. The show brought him back after leaving him for dead, so odds are it has a plan for him beyond making him a foot soldier to be mowed down by the Night King’s army. Even if that’s not true, it would be cruel even by Game of Thrones standards to kill the Hound just a few episodes after bringing him back, no? He’s a rich character, a fascinating mix of pragmatism, sensitivity, and moral ambiguity. It’d be a shame to lose him too soon.

Chance of Survival: 90%
