Gwendoline Christie: Game of Thrones Season 5 “Is Definitely My Favorite”
We’re catching up on all the relevant interview footage from the Game of Thrones red carpet that happened earlier this week. And though reviews, both spoilery and non-spoilery, say that Season 5 is looking to be darker than ever, one actor says that it’s her favorite season, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“It was my favorite season so far,” said Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on the series. “It’s definitely my favorite.”
Why is this coming season Gwendoline Christie’s favorite? And what does the season have in store for Brienne? Check out the answers below.
For one thing, the show keeps topping itself.
You keep thinking, ‘How can it possibly top each time? How can it achieve more and be more climactic? And I think it achieves it by being more complex and all the subtlties of what [author George R.R. Martin] does and now [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. They take the worst thing possible and twist it into something else entirely.”
Zap2It also spoke with the actress on the red carpet, in the video above, and they got this juicy tidbit:
That jives with the scene that The Raven brought at the end of HBO’s set of “The Sights,” where she tells Pod that all the good Lords to fight for are dead, and the rest are monsters.
The real question though, for both Unsullied and book readers, is where will Brienne head now. For readers, we know her entire storyline for this coming season was already wrapped up by the end of last season, with Rorge and Biter conveniently offed by Arya and the Hound, and no Lady Stoneheart to run into. Brienne and Pod are one of the few wildcards left in the season—we have no idea where they will head, now that they’ve found (and lost) Arya. Though Brienne does not find Sansa in the books, it would perhaps make sense (since Sansa outed herself to the Lords Declarant already) to have Brienne and Pod run into Sansa and Littlefinger. The actors have hinted as much in interviews, and giving Brienne a new direction, and a new lady to swear fealty to, might do her a lot of good.
