Khaleesi Plays It Straight in New Terminator Spot

Emilia Clarke fans were excited to see our first Game of Thrones star poised for a break out turn in a major film, with the cleverly plot twisted trailer for Terminator: Genisys. In it, Clarke turns everything we assumed about her take on the iconic Sarah Conner character with a hell of an entrance, delivering the famous line once said to her all those sequels ago: “Come with me if you want to live!” One could almost imagine her saying the same to the Unsullied, though there she’d say it from the back of a dragon instead of the cab of a truck.

This week’s new clip shows the same intensity of character, but this time, she’s playing the straight man to other’s baffledly funny reactions.

Check it out, and what new co star she’s picking up, below.

JK Simmons! Old HBO fans still see OZ‘s Vernon Schillinger when we look at him, despite the years removed in other roles and endless Farmer’s Insurance commercials. (Those commercials get a whole lot funnier if you imagine he’s Vernon in them, by the way.) But seeing him across the shot for our Mother of Dragons got me thinking–who would Simmons be cast as in Game of Thrones? American accent aside, he’s perfect for that sort of minor lord standing about in his armor, grimacing as his fate, lands and fortunes are determined by the poorly thought out and impulsive decisions of those he’s vassal to, by no fault of his own but accident of birth. A northerner perhaps? Stuck under the boot of Bolton now that the King in the North has gone the way of the dodo? A southeron lord, bowing and scraping to Tommen, with one eye firmly on Cersei?

Actually no. I think Simmons’ best bet would have been an Iron Islander, nominating someone else to rule the Pyke other than himself, and loudly ignoring that the best candidate was Yara, due to her being a woman. Perhaps if we were to have a Kingsmoot, (instead of it all being cut from the show) he might then even one day take a boat and come in direct contact with the Mother of Dragons. She’s here to stop the end of the world with her dragons? Yeah, he can work with that.
