Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister

For someone without much in the way of brawn, Tyrion Lannister has survived a long time in the game of thrones. Yes, the youngest Lannister is the most cunning member of the family, and yes, he’s the most popular member of the family, but still—in a world where might too often makes right, I wouldn’t have put money on a dwarf surviving this long. And yet the self-professed “greatest Lannister killer of all time” soldiers on. Clearly, Tyrion has some role yet to play, but that doesn’t mean he has to live through the whole series to play it.

For starters, there may be some cosmic justice headed his way. We are told repeatedly in the books (less so on the show) that kinslayers are accursed in the eyes of gods and men. Tyrion killed his father. That puts him in the kinslayer category no matter big a jerk Tywin was to his son. Now, Tyrion is heading back to the scene of the crime: King’s Landing. Someone—Cersei or Jaime or the angry hand of fate—will try and make him pay for what he did. And even if Tyrion survives that conflict, there’s still the war with the White Walkers on the horizon. There are chances for Tyrion to wind up six feet under at every turn.

But does this spell doom for perhaps the most popular character on the show in Season 7? It’s doubtful. There’s simply too much for the little guy left to do, and his great strategic mind could be a huge benefit against the White Walkers. While Tyrion’s death may be in the cards for Season 8, the producers likely want to hold off that riot for as long as possible.

Chance of Survival: 80%
