Surviving to Season 6: Actors Accidentally Spoil Who Lives

With only a matter of days between now and the premiere of Season 5, all of the main cast of Game of Thrones are rushing through a flurry of interviews about their upcoming roles, as well as their various other projects. That’s where the trouble starts.

One of the “big” stories of this season has been, “The death you won’t see coming.” It’s been hyped in various ways through various actors and outlets since January, mentioned by everybody from Richard Madden on his Cinderella tour to Martin himself to the WiC staff in this speculative post. Entertainment Weekly compounded the question by reporting that a longtime actor who thought he would survive the season would be offed, but that’s not necessarily the shocking death that’s promised.

A couple of Game of Thrones cast members have inadvertently taken themselves off the death watch by casually mentioning that they’re scheduled to film Season 6. Who is definitely not on the chopping block for Season 5? So far….

…we have two.

Starting with the PopSugar interview we posted yesterday. At the time, it didn’t even occur to me that Dinklage had revealed a “spoiler.” After all, in my mind, he’s Tyrion! He, like Arya, HAS to live. Right?

Well, I can worry about that next season. Dinklage confirmed that he will be filming Season 6. Unless his part is to play a corpse lying in state, a la his father, we’re pretty sure he’s going to be alright.

Then there’s the interview with Emilia Clarke we posted this morning, in which she casually mentions her schedule towards the very end. She’ll be filming here, there, and then Season 6, you know?  Again, I didn’t think twice when I read it. But once Dinklage’s “spoiler” was pointed out to me, suddenly Emilia’s seemed just as important. After all, we don’t actually know the Mother of Dragons will survive, especially now that she’s locked her babies away.

Someone who was a little more circumspect? Natalie Dormer recently talked about Game of Thrones with SELF magazine, but cannily did not mention if Season 6 was on her docket. Someone else who also hasn’t confirmed or denied his survival? Kit Harington. So though the Lannister and Targaryen clans can rest easy, Tyrell and Stark still have to worry. After all, you know what happens every time you ask about the next book….
