Someone is Lobbying for Prince Harry to be on Game of Thrones

It is no secret that Game of Thrones is currently the largest show in the world. There is a miles-long list of actors and actresses who would give their teeth for a role, and more than a few celebrities lobbying for walk ons. But Prince Harry?

Well, someone, somewhere apparently thinks this casting idea a splendid notion, and has even taken to the pages of the Daily Star to publicly lobby for his casting. The claim, of course, is not that Harry wants on the show. After all, as a royal, he could not possibly want to be on the show, as that would never do. The show has to want him.  The reason Harry hasn’t said yes (of course,) is because he needs to make up his mind. Sure.

The Only Harry Prince We Need

A source said: “Harry has been offered a cameo in the sixth series of Game Of Thrones, which starts filming in Northern Ireland this summer.

“At the moment he’s not made a decision but the offer is on the table.

“There are plenty of opportunities for him to take up a role.”

Plenty of opportunities, really?

Producers are said to be “desperate” for Harry to commit to a guest appearance and show creators DB Weiss and David Benioff hope the prince can fit filming into his busy schedule.

One might (might!) have believed the story, but once this claim comes up, all your BS buzzers should go off. Remember, Weiss and Benioff are not British. They are American. Their interest in British royal celebrity is probably not all that high. The only reason they film in the UK and cast so many BBC actors is due to the BBC’s involvement early on in production, before it dropped out.

Considering they are juggling multiple filming locations and an enormously complicated schedule, not to mention going completely off book next year, it is highly doubtful that they are desperate to cast someone who will come with massive security nightmares for all involved. That’s not to say the show hasn’t engaged in stunt casting before, but in most cases it was for the benefit of the program, or at least was something that didn’t come with stipulations that would make everyone else’s jobs more difficult.

Please Don’t Hire My Grandson

I don’t know if it was Harry’s people who put this rumor out in hopes of a public wave of support, or if it was just a random piece of gossip, but we should, for Harry’s sake, hope it was the latter. To be seen lobbying for a television programme! Queen Elizabeth would certainly not be amused.
